These are my disco boots which were an integral part of my self-confidence as a queer femme when I was about 17. They gave me the height I thought I needed, and the silhouette of a drag queen- the latter being why they made me so proud to be queer. Wearing them casually connected me to a wider queer culture every day, so I never took them off! Five years later, I’ve learned that my queerness is something that I represent myself, so while I don’t feel the need to wear the boots every day anymore, I still wear them and love them, both because of their memories and how confident they still make me feel!
